AEMS Events Coordinator
Job Description
The Asian Educational Media Service (AEMS) seeks a part-time event coordinator at a 50% appointment (20 hours per week).
The Events Coordinator will manage events sponsored by AEMS, including our annual Asian Film Festival (fall semester), approximately one teacher workshop per semester, and a three-day summer workshop on documentary filmmaking for academic researchers (a new project this year), as well as other events as they come up, including meeting and conference arrangements. The Events Coordinator will also be involved in applying for funding to support these events.
Duties:
Coordinate with planning committees for both film fest and filmmaking workshop to develop event programs and schedules;
Coordinate with guests and presenters for events on both content and logistics, ensuring that expectations are clear, travel arrangements are made, guests are hosted, etc.);
Coordinate application and selection process for summer workshop participants;
Make logistical arrangements for each event;
Contact and work with film distributors to obtain screeners and book films for festival;
Publicize events (working with graphic designer) on and off campus;
Attend and assist at events;
Work with the program director to request funding and apply for grants for AEMS events and related projects;
Assist with various clerical tasks, including filing, mailings, and proofreading; and
Do an equal share of office housekeeping.
There will be opportunity for further development of existing duties and creation of new projects, depending on creativity and initiative.
AEMS, a program of the Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies, assists K-12 and college educators in finding multimedia resources for learning and teaching about Asia. Our website and online database (www.aems.uiuc.edu) form the centerpiece of our services. We also publish a newsletter of film and multimedia reviews for national and international distribution and conduct educator workshops. Locally, we maintain a collection of videos and curriculum materials, open to the public. Increasingly, we are offering film-oriented educational events for both local and national audiences.
Qualifications
Required qualifications include:
Bachelors degree;
Experience working collaboratively with diverse kinds of professionals, especially in academia;
Experience planning and executing events;
Strong writing and communication skills;
Demonstrated interest in film and/or digital media;
Experience in teaching and/or working with teachers;
Good research skills, with creative thinking and demonstrated problem-solving ability;
Ability to work independently and take initiative; and
Strong organizational skills.
Desired qualifications include:
Some graduate work;
Background in media production;
Background in Asian Studies;
Experience with grant writing; and
Interest and/or experience in educational outreach.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Start date: Sept. 17, 2007 (negotiable)
End date: June 30, 2008
