What is the use of an RSS feed?

An RSS feed is used to automatically send anouncements to any subscribing user. The content changes dynamically, so it is not neccesary to subscribe to the feed more than once to continue recieving new information. Our feed is set up to display the most recent news at the Asian Education Media Center.

How do I subscribe?

Unlike a subscription to a newspaper or magazine, an RSS subscription is free. You can subscribe by adding a live bookmark in Firefox or Internet Explorer, downloading an RSS client, or using an online RSS feed reader service.

How do I add a live bookmark in Firefox?

1. Click on the RSS feed icon

It should be located at the bottom right corner of the screen on Firefox 1.5, and in the toolbar on Firefox 2.0:

2. It should bring up this dialog:

click on Subscribe to 'New at AEMS'

3. You will be asked to add a bookmark:

click OK.

 

4. You can access this bookmark by clicking on the bookmark menu.

 

How do I add live bookmarks in Internet Explorer 7?

1. Click the RSS feed icon

It's located in the upper right toolbar:

 

2. You'll be bought to this screen:

4. You'll see a dialog box that asks you to subscribe to the feed. Click Subscribe.

5. You should get a message telling you that you've successfully subscribed to the feed.

6. To access the feed, click on the star icon in the upper left corner of the toolbar. It will take you to the Favorites Center. You can also type CTRL + C to access it.

7. When the Favorites Center is displayed in Internet Explorer, click on the Feeds tab:

 

8. To access the feed, single click on it. It should bring up a screen with all of the feed information.

 

What are some of the online RSS readers?

Some of online RSS readers include Bloglines, My Yahoo, Google Reader and Rojo.
